[edit]I moved this quote to the Talk page. It appeared in the context of something like "Kirkland's support for the Polish Solidarity trade union leading to the expansion of worker rights in the world." This is debatable. Trade union membership was virtually meaningless in the Eastern Block. However there were guarantees of full employement, health insurance, pensions, etc. Workers in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union are now technically free to join unions, the practice can be highly restricted. The economies are subject to international restructuring pressures which result in consolidation or elimination of industries and agricultural sectors. So the expansion is debatable and not without disadvantages. DJ Silverfish 16:24, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
